Layout Tours

The SF Bay Area and the Coast Division are home to some of the most amazing layouts in the world. We will have over 40 layouts open during the convention, including such icons as Jack Burgess’ Yosemite Valley, Bob Brown, Dave Adams and many more. Two curated self-driving layout tour routes with 5-7 layouts featured will be available each day.  Each route will be laid out to maximize potential layout viewing in a specific area of the Coast Division. Some layouts will be open on Wednesday and Sunday for inbound and outbound attendees. Check out all the layouts that will be open.

Clinics

With 45 clinic slots and some of the best clinicians in the world, PCR 2024 promises to be a great place to learn. And the technology focus will improve your modeling. Learn from modeling luminaries and MMRs, including Earl Girbovan, Jack Burgess, Dave Adams, Seth Neumann, and many more.  In addition, we are considering new clinic concepts such as the multi-day Build-and-Take as well as the daily technology focus in model railroading. Operating Sessions

Operators will have a great time at PCR 2024. The Bay Area OPSIG is coordinating Operating Sessions for the convention. On each convention day there will be options for afternoon operating sessions. The options will include casual, focused, and intense operating sessions so attendees can try or challenge themselves. In addition, we plan to have operating options available for Wednesday and Sunday for travelers.

Contests

Excursions

There will be excursions to prototype railroads on Thursday and Friday. Thursday is a tour of the SPCRR shop and yard. Friday is a tour to the Niles Canyon Railway, including rides on the world famous M200 Railbus..

Schedule

The schedule for The Tech Line follows the popular open afternoon concept. We will have Clinics in the morning and evening with one clinic room during the afternoon. Otherwise, the afternoons will be kept open for other activities.  Each afternoon there will be choices of:

  • Multiple Layout Tours
  • Multiple Operating Sessions
  • Prototype Tours and Activities
  • Vendor and Swap Meet Area

Convention Car and Apparel

The Convention Car is an HO Sacramento Northern Wood Side Boxcar from Acccurail. Convention Apparel and Accessories are available directly from Daylight Sales.

Vendors, Swap Meet and PCR Consignment Depot

The Tech Line Convention will have three selling/buying areas: vendor tables, swap meet tables, and the PCR Consignment Depot. Whether you are selling or buying, the PCR 2024 Convention will be an ideal venue. The Vendor and Swap Meet areas will be open to the general NMRA membership on Friday and Saturday of the convention.

Sonesta Hotel

The 2024 PCR convention will be held April 24-28, 2024, at the Sonesta San Jose hotel in the middle of the golden triangle in Silicon Valley.  Room rates are only $139 per night with no parking or other added resort fees

The Sonesta hotel features an outstanding convention facility and is located to enabling visiting all of the Bay Area model railroad attractions.
